Creating Web Graphics for Web : How to Add Gradient using Adobe Photoshop Elements

Step One: Access the Gradient Tool

To add a gradient effect to the background of your header just follow these steps:

Step 1.1: Open Photoshop Elements, then go to FILE> OPEN and choose header.psd from the “My Web Site” folder.

if you have no file saved, follow this steps: Create New File

a. Click File then select New.

b.  Choose Blank File

c.  Type 650 for width

d.  150 for height

e. 72 dpi for the resolution

f.  Color mode RGB

g.  Background Contents  — White

h.  Click Ok.

Step 1.2: The file will open in Elements and you will see this:

Step 1.3: Unlock the background layer.

At this time you will have one layer called “Background” and it will be locked, so you need to put your mouse on the layer itself (shown below) and double click twice quickly to turn it into an editable layer.

When you’ve double clicked on it, an options box will appear and you need to change “Layer 0″ to “background”, like this:

When it’s unlocked you will see the lock icon is now gone from next to the word “Background” in the layer menu:

If you want to add the gradient as the ONLY effect on the header then make sure you are on the layer marked BACKGROUND.

Step Two: Accessing the Gradient Tool

Now go to the TOOLBAR and select the GRADIENT tool:

That brings up the GRADIENT TOOLBAR. From here you are going to choose a PRESET GRADIENT, or CREATE YOUR OWN.

USING PRE-SET GRADIENTS:

Step 2.1: In Section 1 of the screen capture below you need to click the little down arrow to bring up the PRESET gradients.

Step 2.2: The PRESET GRADIENTS you will see the first time you open Photoshop Elements will look like this:

Step 2.3: Choose a gradient from the default list, OR click the arrow on the right hand side to bring up the OTHER gradient options.

Step 2.4: When you have the gradient selected you need to take the gradient tool and drag it from left to right (starting just outside the edge of your graphic image) or top to bottom, whatever you prefer.

TIP: Hold down the SHIFT key when you are dragging the gradient tool and you will make a nice straight gradient effect.

TIP: If you only drag partway down the image or partway across, the gradient effect will look different.

Gradient Effect from Left to Right:

Gradient Effect from Right to Left:

Gradient Effect from Top to Bottom:

Gradient Effect from Bottom to Top:

I suggest you play around with the tool a little bit to find the effect you like.

Or, if you want to experiment with using a specific gradient color scheme, go to the section below to discover how to create your own custom gradients.

Learning The HTML Basics | Use Web graphics bullets To Make Your Text Stand Out

Just like with the use of other high quality free web graphics such as web buttons, background images, webpage dividers and much more, you can use web graphics bullets to enhance your website. Web graphic bullets are perfect for lists, as decorations, menus, among many other purposes.

The purposes of web graphic bullets include:

When you are on a webpage, you may see one of the many bullets there. What the bullets does is to provide you the user with a graphical link to another website. Instead of using text to form a hyperlink, website designers make use of the bullets.

Bullets are also used to locate another web page on the same website. For example, you may have seen on numerous websites small arrow-shaped icons like the ones in this article. Those types of bullets allow the user to skip between pages or sets of pages while on the same website.

Web graphic bullets have to be downloaded from the internet. Seeing that they are the creative work of other users of the internet, a copyright has been granted, an agreement will have to be formed between the creator of the bullets and the user who is downloading them. This prevents users from taking advantage of the work done by others.

If you are interested in creating your personal bullets, then you will need to purchase the Adobe Dreamweaver or any other graphics software. The Dreamweaver software allows you to create bullets and other graphical images using HTML or CSS.

To create bullets using the CSS style codes you will have to follow the following steps:

Click on Window > CSS Styles to open the CSS Styles pallet.

Select the button that says ‘New CSS Style’ and provide the name of style as .bullet and whether it is a style sheet file or only the current document.

From the List Category, you will select the type of bullet image that you want and save that style.

At this stage, you are ready to create your list of bullet items using the default bullet. Afterwards you will apply the style by selecting the <ul> or <ol> tags in the tag selector found at the bottom of the document window. Right click on the window and Set Class to bullet.

Here is a list of the popular CSS style codes that can be used to create your bullets using Dreamweaver.

Bullet   Type

CSS Style Code

Example

Circle

.bullet   {list-style-type: circle;}

List   Item 1

Numbers

.bullet   {list-style-type: decimal;}

List   Item 1

Square

.bullet   {list-style-type: square;}

List   Item 1

Image Bullet

.bullet   {list-style-image: url(/images/icons/arrow.gif);}

List   Item 1

Learn Graphic Designs For Websites | How To Design an Image

Great web graphics. When surfing the internet, you will see many graphical images on all websites. These are called web graphics. Categories of web graphics include buttons, bullets, animated images (texts, etc), photos, background tiles, and so much more. Each category of web graphics have sub-categories, for example web bullets have arrows, basic, prismatic, etc.

If you are looking for great web graphics to enhance your website or webpage, there are numerous sites online from where you can download these graphics. Graphic works on these sites are copyrighted, therefore, it is very important that you accept or agree to the statement outlined by each graphics creator before any downloads are made.

On the other hand, you not only can download great web graphics that are already created; you can create your personal graphics to use on your website, webpage or just for enjoyment. One way of doing this is to install graphic software or a graphic editor on your computer. The most popular ones include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, the Gimp, Adobe Dreamweaver, Macromedia fireworks.

If you are not willing to purchase the software, then you can make use of free text generators and online sites to create animated texts and other graphics. Text generators are mostly linked to social networks, such as MySpace, Facebook, Tagged, Hi5, etc, where members are provided with the opportunity to create their graphics and upload them to their profiles thus making them more attractive. Some of the most popular text generators and online graphics websites include Cool Text Graphics Generator on cooltext.com, pimp-my-profile.com, textspace.net, glowtxt.com, EasyGraffitiText.com, GRSites.com, jellymuffin.com and so much more.

Here is how you can create a web button using the graphic making tool found on GRSites.com:

Step 1: Choose a background texture for the button

You can choose a background texture by using various options. The first option is browsing for a texture that is in the site’s archive and following the instructions in the title bar. The second option would be to create or design your own texture by choosing the type of texture (Gradient, Procedural, Pattern and Text) and personalizing it. Thirdly, you can fetch a texture from any other website by way of a URL or retrieve one from the archive by way of its filename. If you have a texture saved on your computer, you also have the option of uploading it to use on the site.

Step 2: Select the Button’s Shape, Style, Effect and Shadow

In this step you choose the shape of your button (pill, rounded, oval, rectangle, etc); the button style (plain, shaded, 3D, metal, glass, gel, bordered, etc); button outline (none, black, bright, perspective, custom color and dark); button shadow (drop, offset, mirror under, mirror behind, under and surround) and the effect (glow, brighten, spot, emboss, etc).

Step 3: Choose the button’s width and height in pixels

You can choose the height and width that you want the button to have manually or automatically.

Step 4: Enter the button’s text, URL and Text Size

In this step, you enter the text that you want the button to reflect, the URL where you want it to appear and the size of the text and the text options.

Step 5: Choose the text and the background color

The color that you choose can be one of the general colors or a specific color.

Step 6: Choose a font

The font chosen can be plain, emboldened or in italics. The font used can be the one provided by the site, or you can retrieve one form the site’s archive, another website or upload it from your computer.

Step 7: other options

In this step, you can set the file format (JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP, and TIFF) and the image quality.

Web Banner Advertising : Creating Graphics To Spice Up Your Web Presence

The greatest satisfaction that one could ever get is to know that they have created an original graphical work. Graphic design is not an easy subject to work with, especially for those who are not experienced with it. However, it is necessary to reduce the cost of service charge for a professional designer. The cost can be reduced by learning some of the basic procedures and techniques of graphic designing and putting them in use.

The First step

Obtain a graphics editor. Software such as these can be found on the internet, some of which are free (freeware), while others have to be bought. Two of the most popular graphic editors are Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. With the help of this software, you will be able to create some of the most professional-looking graphics.

Other graphic editors include the Gimp, XnView, Pixia, PhotoFiltre, Ultimate Paint, and LiquidIcon, just to name a few. Whenever you are choosing your editor, you need to take into consideration what you are trying to accomplish, the size of the program and if you have enough memory for it to perform at its best, and how easy or difficult it is when using the program.

Second step

Learn about the different file formats that are available from which to make your choice. Joint Photographic Expert Group (JPEG) and Graphic Interchange Format (GIF) are two of the oldest and most popular file formats used by persons when creating their graphics. The JPEG file format is really the nickname for the JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF).

This format is most suitable for multi-colored photos, where you have the choice of specifying the degree of compression of the file.

On the other hand, the GIF format is most suitable images with fewer colors (a maximum of 256 colors) than a photograph, such as logos, web bullets and web buttons. Saving GIF image files can be done using either of the two different GIF formats, 87 or 89a. The better of the two is the 89a format because it provides the benefits of transparency, interlacing and animation.

Third Step

The next step of graphic creation involves you becoming acquainted with your graphic-editing program via the use of tutorials. Most of the programs have their own start-up information, however that is not the only information that you need to know. Other websites are on the internet providing tips on how to use specific programs; take the chance to get yourself familiar with your choice of graphic editor. To create your personal graphics you need to follow the systematic process provided by the program’s manual.

After you have learnt how to use you the program and you created your graphics, you can use text generators, for example Cool Text and Pimp My Profile, to customize your graphics. This customization will be depicting your individual personality and creativity.

After customization is complete, then it is time to add the graphics to your webpage. First you have to save the created web graphic to your disk, whether the hard disk or a removable disk. Afterwards you upload it to your website.

Hire a Web Designer for your web graphics design but you can learn the basics and get some SKILLS going for yourself.

Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Elements releases new versions every now and then. But the basics will never be different. Really, you CAN figure it out.

If you have Photoshop CS4 it is THE SAME as CS3 or lower version as far as what we do. The ONLY difference is the change in looks.

It isn’t complicated.

You draw  boxes .

You insert photos.

You add a border or shadow.

You create a  gradient.

You add a pattern.

Understand layers.

Understand how to use the canvass.

Understand how to lock layers and view layers.

Know how to add a stroke on text or a graphics.

Know how to add a background image or color to a table in Photoshop.

SIMPLE,  SIMPLE stuff.

That’s about all things we do in Photoshop. You could learn them in a few hours if you set your MIND to it. We use like 3% of the total abilities of Photoshop.

Here are the BASICS of Adobe Photoshop Know-How:

Open you Photoshop

Go to File > New , type in 650 W x 150 pixels H.  72 resolution, RGB, white.

Now you got yourself a header. Click the T for text. Type. Select Impact Font size 48.

Look for the Layers Options menu on the right side of photoshop window.

Click on the text layer. Click on fx button

You can add shadow and others on your headline text:

POOF!  Instant gradient.

On the option window shown above, Now go to Stroke, 1 pixel, black. OK. Now you have a nice little line around your text.

Now click on Drop Shadow.
Pick one and hit OK. Now you got yourself a drop shadow.

Open a picture, select all, edit, paste into selection. Now you have a picture as a background. Decrease opacity. Control T and move it around.

Is THAT so all complicated you cannot do it?

Really, folks.  It’s NOT hard.

My point is you spend all this time fearing Photoshop and thinking it’s some BIG MONSTER. And in about few minutes you can you all the basics of how to add a special effects.

You gotta know inserting type and sizing it, apply gradient, add stroke, add drop shadow.

You gotta add a pattern and pictures to the background.

I’m NOT claiming to turn you into some master Photoshop artist. But knowing the basics? You NEED to know how Photoshop works. And it’s not some huge ordeal.

You are going to see video used more and more for internet marketing campaign. The year internet sold for a billion dollars was the same year I predicted in the December before that the following year would be the year of video. Now, video will become an ever- increasing part of your online marketing campaign.

Why?

Because the younger generations that are quickly gaining purchasing power are used to it. Gen X’ers are now 27 and 28 years old. They grew up on video games. They are used to video.

In the old days, you had to pay massive website hosting fees or you had to host video on a dedicated server that caused some problems with larger numbers of people watching the video at the same time.

Most people have not figured out how to use it yet. But they will. Then came youtube. People now add youtube video web sites and embed that video to their websites.

For example, I had to do a lot of research to figure out how to create a webpage video so I did not have to pay $30 a month for a service that did it for me for my online video marketing campaign. I did figure that out. But it was not easy. Anyway, video now streams like a champ. In fact, I am shocked at how well video plays online.

One of my mentors actually dumped TV because now they just watch all their TV shows. You can also watch streaming video web page sporting events instead of on TV and they look great! Just as good as on TV.

It is a new day as far as video is concerned. This is not two years ago!

Fact is, 14-year-old on internet are making their own videos that look pro and would absolutely blow you away. Combine that fact with this….

Here are a few ways to use video:

* Adding video to your testimonials website are smoking hot

* add video to web sites introducing your sales letter can work

* Video squeeze pages with success

* Email to video is going to be used more an more.

So you send an email marketing campaign that gets people to watch a short video. Keep your videos under 10 minutes. This is a hard-to-follow rule and I usually break it.

* Video sales presentations work great

While text sales letters still outpull video, creative video production is faster and appeals to a younger demographic – one way to create sales pages that sell.

Use Green Screen abilities.

A whole lot of the fun stuff you can do is made possible by composing with green screens. That means you shoot video against a green screen and then replace the green part with a photo or other video footage. A lot of your big movies nowadays use green screen. The SECRET of great green screens is lighting the green screen evenly. I have seen people do good green screen using cheapo fabric from the store or green poster board stuck on a wall. The lighting is much more important than the fabric. Some people set up a little studio in their garage and use “work lights” to light the green screen. It is amazing what you can do on the cheap if you have ingenuity. Here’s are tips on how to create your first web video.

Lower thirds.

You know how on news shows you see this little transparent block zip on the screen with text in it giving the name of the news anchor and their position? Those little blocks are called lower thirds. They are always transparent. You will see them a lot on sporting events also. Some programs have really nice lower thirds built into them. Some do not.

Motion backgrounds.

Some programs come with motion backgrounds you can drop in for a title or in place of your green screen.

Masking abilities.

So you can take your video and mask out the outline of your body. Then put in funky colors and make it look like you are getting beamed up like on Startrek. How cool is that?

Support.

Your lower end programs do not offer much in the way of support. So you will need to look for user groups that support them.

This is where your higher end programs excel. There is more support, more user groups, more plugins, more resources. More of everything. But you will need that support because there is more of a learning curve.

How to Choose

Now, in general, the main criteria are as follows:

1. How fast a learner are you? If you are not tech savvy, go for a simple, low-end website builder video program. Max out its abilities. Then look at a step up.

2. Are you tech savvy? If you are tech savvy, you can easily handle software.

3. What is your budget? If you are on a skinny rabbit budget, go low end.

4. How professional do you want to look? The more expensive programs have better titling effects, and better masking and green screen abilities.

But listen, using just a cheapo green screen and work lights, you can do mind blowing video using an program.

A lot comes down to how resourceful or you are or choose to be.

Video is the future because the Gen X’ers are growing up.

How to Produce Your First Video Graphics for Web
Step-By-Step In Detail With Complete Videos and Resources

In my new “whiteboard training” event, I’m going to lead people through creating their first product and promoting it. But let’s say you aren’t in my class. Are you totally screwed?

NO! I’m gonna give you an awesome video cheat sheet here to get you going.

If they can do that, YOU can create your first video!

Here is a sample video:

=============

1.  Software

=============

a.  Camstudio Video Tutorial

It’s here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/

The price or lack of a price will fit EVERYONE’S pocketbook.

b.  Hypercam Video Tutorial

Hypercam will produce HD quality video and it’s only $40 USD. I like Camtasia better but this WILL do a

very fine job on tutorials.

http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/

Here’s a video on how to create a video using Hypercam:

Here’s how to get KILLER quality video with hypercam:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORTpobFAxcA&feature=related

How to use Hypercam properly:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MpBAhGxRrM

Good video on hypercam sound:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM20vSSEyJo

c.  MAC users

Here’s a program that’s as cheap as $29.95 for the Mac, with the pro version being about 60 bucks.

http://www.shinywhitebox.com/

Now, there is a new camtasia version where you can make your own movie online and insert subtitles into movie for the Mac for around a hundred bucks.

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/screenium.html

You can just search Google for “Screenium” if the above link changes.

I couldn’t find a price so I’m not sure if there’s a charge for it.

Here’s a video on how to use it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uBHt6IOXws&feature=related

There’s also info there on how to get an unlock code for it but I don’t know if that’s “kosher” or not.

d.  Camtasia

This is the tool most people use. But it costs more. There is a Mac version available now.

e.  The “do-it-all” program

I’m revealing this in my “Produce and Promote” class. Not only does it do trick video editing but it’ll also do screen capture video AND audio editing. All for 50 to 100 bucks. Now, if you have the funds, I DO recommend Camtasia since it’s the most robust tool for screen captures.

But if you’re on a limited budget, there ARE plenty of alternatives.

======================

2.  Set Up Your Audio

======================

a. USB headset. How to record your own audio.

My friends Jason Fladlien and Robert Plank use the Logitech USB Clearchat headset. I think it costs 40 bucks or something like that.

You plug this into your usb and you’re recording. That simple. You may need to go into your control panel on the audio icon and select the headset name.

b. Pro mike and sound card

I use a pro mike and external sound card. Mike Stewart at internetaudioguy.com can get you all set up with the gear and training on how to use it. In a pinch, you can use something cheaper.

I believe I have instructions on my gear in Promo Dashboard or Product Dashboard. I can’t remember which one I put it in. But if you have those products, I have the set up I use. It costs less than the one Mike sells BUT I don’t provide support and training like Mike does.

This set up works on both Macs and PCs.

c. Sampson USB mike or Snowflake

These two run around $100. I believe Ed Dale uses the Snowflake. It’s used more by Mac users I believe.

=====================

3.  Make your intro

=====================

You’re going to need a trick little intro for your videos. Here’s a tutorial if you want the cheapo way to do it and still get something cool:

http://www.youtube.com/user/AceGamer445#play/uploads/12/xN8lCQ5etBI

=====================================

4. Research and Outline your videos

=====================================

Research your video content. Then make notes of

the topics for each video and bullet points for each topic.

=====================

5.  Record your video

=====================

You have your bullet points for each video. So grab your first set of bullet points and fire away on your video. If you have a 2-screen computer set up, you can put a little text file with your bullet points on one screen and record on the other.

=======================================

6. Add your intro, call outs and zooms

=======================================

Add the intro you created in #3 above. In Camtasia, you just “import media” and then drag the intro down to your timeline. Easy!

The call outs and zooms are also very easy in Camtasia.

===================

7. Save for the web

===================

In general, your videos as 5-10 frames per second. Audio can go from 32 kbps up to 96. If you’re using hypercam, there are tons of tutorials on youtube on how to best save it for the web. There are also plenty of Camtasia tutorial on how to create your own video.

In the old days everything was saved as flv. Now, everything is going to mp4 since that is what Iphones and all the

appliances are using.

In Camtasia, I prefer the custom settings but if you’re a newbie, just use their default web settings.

=======================

8.  Upload to hosting

=======================

If you’re using a screen capture tutorial, you should be able to serve this off regular hosting fine. I don’t feel you need Amazon Aws for it because the file sizes are small.

The program to use is FILEZILLA. They have Mac and PC versions:

http://filezilla-project.org/

Just go to youtube and type in filezilla and you’ll get plenty of videos on how to FTP using it.

Here is one I grabbed fast:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3DudpEMPiY

For hosting, I recommend an inexpensive Hostgator account.

=======================

9.  Link to your video

=======================

The GREAT thing about Camtasia is it saves your video as an html page if you want it to. That way you just upload the whole little folder Camtasia gives you and you’re good to go.

Other than that, if you’re a newbie, upload to Viddler.com or Youtube.com and they’ll give you copy and paste code to “embed” the video on your web site.

And if you don’t know how to do THAT, there are plenty of videos on that also.

Here’s a slick video on how to do it using Dreamweaver:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3LVTu5kEOE

Don’t know HOW to use Dreamweaver?

The videos on that are here also:

http://www.youtube.com/user/DreamWeaverTutorial

Here’s a good tutorial on embedding custom players for your youtube videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25J-Jj_CJOc&feature=related

=======

wrap up

=======

These are ALL the resources you need to produce your FIRST info product consisting of 4-6 videos. Now, in my Whiteboard training, I’ll give some more advanced resources. But seriously, this is ALL you need to get started.

When are you going to create your first product?

See, it’s one thing to be an information junkie and glutton. And quite another to set a goal to create your first 4 videos in the next 7 days. If you’ll commit to doing that, go to my blog and tell me so. Better yet, join me in my whiteboard training and have accountability to get it done AND promote your product.

Is anyone else really teaching you this stuff and pushing you to create and promote your own products? Or are they just trying to suck you into their coaching program with tidbits of information? That’s a good sales tactic on their part. And I probably shoot myself in the foot by just GIVING you these resources without even asking a penny.

But here’s the thing:

I KNOW in my heart that if you start producing and promoting, you’ll realize you CAN do this and it isn’t as hard or complicated as your mind made it out to be.

PUT UP YOUR WEB SITE OR CREATE YOUR FREE WEBPAGE? Discover how easy and simple it can be to do your own graphic design (or at least some of it). Plus, find out the exact resources I recommend to save a bundle. Avoid going down the wrong path. Design Dashboard Easily Create Graphics.
