Should you use a web design template or not?
It’s a good question. For example, I’m using a template here for my blog. But there’s a substantial difference between my blog and a web page or web site designed to communicate a persuasive message that gets the reader to take an action.
My understanding of graphic design is that it helps you COMMUNICATE your message, whatever that is.
It’s very difficult to find a template the communicates the exact MESSAGE you want to get across. Templates by design are generic. As a result, they don’t help you communicate your message.
Now, I’ve seen many web sites that had cool and cute graphic web designs so lacking they would have been better off with a simple template.
But if you have a degree of skill, or can hire an artist who does, you’re better off with a site design that REINFORCES your basic persuasive message.
