Creating a web page is not just a simple task. There are certain steps that have to be taken before, during and after the web page have been created.
Step One
The first step involves you choosing a topic or theme on which to base your website. There are so many topics in the world, but the one you choose should be of interest to you as well as to others. Creating the website with your chosen topic, you must ensure that you make it fun for persons to look at and read. This will keep ensure that there is repetitive visits to your site.
When you have decided on the specific topic, you then need to create a text document on that topic and save it using the .html or the .htm format. At the beginning of your entry, you can place an attention-grabbing introduction and/or image so that persons will know exactly what you are talking about, once they have seen the image and before reading the entire article.
Step Two
The step entails choosing the specific tools, such as software, hardware, etc, that will be used in the creation of the web page. The software includes a HTML editor or a text editor. What this software does is provide the internet browser with information on how to arrange the text and images on the web page. Along with the editor, you are also going to be needing photos, graphics, etc and a graphics program to attach them to the web page. In addition, a file transfer protocol (FTP) client will definitely be required to transfer the web page from your personal computer (PC) to the web browser.
Step Three
The third step is understanding the HTML editor and using it to create your web page. At this stage, you will learn the HTML codes or tags, which have to be used on the web page. By learning these codes, it makes it easier for you to fix issues or problems associated with the editor.
The html codes may be a little complicated and confusing to understand when you first see then. However, it gets much easier as time passes because ‘practice makes perfect’. While learning the codes you could also be adding your images (graphics, photos, etc) to your web page. These images can be had from secondary sources or be original work.
Some of the basic HTML codes include <p> (the paragraph marker); <h#> (the heading marker; <br /> (the break tag); <strong> (the bold tag); <html> (the HTML tag); <head> — the head tag; <title> (the title tag) and <body> (the body tag)
Step Four
When you have reached step four, it is then time for you to save your document as a ‘Text Only’ using the .htm or .html format and have a preview of your work via the use of your web browser.
There may be a few problems when you first open the preview of your file. Adjustments, for any wrong details on your web page, can be made in your text editor. After which your re-save the document and reload the page. This step may have to be repeated until everything is perfect with it.
Step Five
After making corrections and adjustments, and you are satisfied with the page, it is then time for you to find somewhere on the internet to upload your pages or hosting your website. This stage also involves informing others about your website and its location on the internet. This can be done via word-of mouth; emailing the websites uniform resource locator (URL) to your friends and others; banner advertisements of your site; exchange of links between persons whose sites are about similar topics, and submitting your website to various search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, etc.
