How To Set Up A Business Website Easily And Painlessly
If you have a business, then setting up your own business website is essential. In today’s world, if you do not have a business website, then your business may not be seen as a legitimate or serious business. Setting a site up does not have to be a laborious task. It can be done easily and painlessly. What may seem like a complicated thing to do is actually quite doable once you break it down into steps.
What Is Your Purpose
Before you even begin, you need to figure out what you want your site to accomplish. Is it to sell a product? Is it to sell a service? Is it to inform your customers? What? If you have several purposes that you need to fill, consider creating one website for each. When you have more than one purpose on one site, your customers may get confused and not know what it is you want them to do. When that happens, they may just click away and go somewhere that is easier to figure out.
Decide On A Domain Name
Your domain name needs to coincide with your purpose. If it is to sell a product, name the domain with something that is memorable and that people can remember when they think of the product. The same goes for a service or anything else you are doing. If you have several different purposes, but they all fall under the same service or product, you can have them all under one domain but in separate sections.
Set Up Hosting
You can host it yourself if you have your own server or you can pay hosting companies to host for you. Unless you have the necessary technical staff on hand to handle server when they come up and they will, it will be better to pay for hosting. Most guarantee 99.9% uptime and they will handle all technical issues that come up. If you think you may want to expand or create more sites, look into ones that offer unlimited storage and bandwidth. If you will keep it small, but want more features, you can pay more for those services.
Design
Out of all the steps, this is the most time-consuming. It is also the most important. Even if your domain name may not be the best, if your site’s design is awesome, it will make up for it in spades. Everything is important from color to font to graphics. Everything needs to tie into each other.
Setup E-Commerce
Once you have your site up and almost complete, you will need to setup e-commerce if you are planning on selling products or services online. Some hosting plans even come with an e-commerce solution. There are open source ones you can use as well. They may not have all the features of a paid version but they will work if you only need the basics. If you are going to be accepting credit cards however, you may need a paid version that can handle your credit card merchants.
